Jawline and neck taping: sculpt your lower face overnight
The lifting placement, from chin to ear. Especially loved by side-sleepers, whose pillows undo their jawline nightly.
Why the lower face responds so well
The jaw and neck area suffers from three overnight forces: gravity, pillow compression (side-sleepers press their lower face into folds for hours), and jaw clenching. Tape along the jawline counteracts all three, it supports tissue in a neutral, slightly lifted position and gives the clenching masseter a gentle reminder to release.
Placement, step by step
- Clean and dry the jawline, no oils or creams where tape will sit.
- Cut a strip 8–12 cm long, round the corners. For a wider "wing", cut the strip into a gentle curve.
- Anchor at the chin side first: place the strip's end about 2 cm from the chin tip, along the jawbone.
- Lay it toward the ear with zero stretch in the tape, following the bone, finishing just below the earlobe.
- Optional neck strip: one soft strip under the chin, centre outward, for the under-chin area.
- Rub gently to activate the adhesive; remove in the morning with warm water or oil.
Side-sleeper tip
Tape the side you sleep on, that's the side collecting pressed-in creases. Better still, pair taping with a silk pillowcase and back-sleeping attempts; the tape then works as your insurance policy.
What to expect
Morning one: fewer pillow creases and a more "held" feeling along the jaw. Over weeks: side-sleep lines soften and many users report less unconscious clenching. What taping won't do: remove submental fat, tighten significantly loose skin, or replace the sculpting work of a daily gua sha routine, the two are ideal partners, not substitutes.
Mistakes to avoid
- Stretching the tape to "pull" the jaw up, this irritates skin and doesn't lift more.
- Taping over the throat's front, stay along the jawbone and under-chin only.
- Square corners, they catch on the pillow and peel.
- Expecting a facelift, this is maintenance and prevention, not surgery.

FAQ
Can taping fix a double chin?
It can reduce overnight fluid pooling and improve posture awareness, but it doesn't remove fat. Pair with lymphatic drainage for the fluid component.
Is neck skin too delicate for tape?
Use the thinnest face tape, zero stretch, and remove extra gently. Skip it if your neck skin is very reactive.
Every night?
3–5 nights weekly is the sustainable sweet spot for most.
