Correct Posture and the Face: Why Your Body Alignment Matters

Correct posture is something we often underestimate, yet it has a great impact on our face too. The face does not function on its own, it is connected to the neck, nape, shoulders and the entire nervous system.

A very common problem is a forward head and stiff neck, which develops from sitting at the computer or looking at the phone. The head moves forward, the neck is constantly tense, and this tension is gradually transferred higher, into the jaw, cheeks and the area around the mouth and eyes.

That is why we often don't even realise that:

- we clench our jaw - our cheeks are stiff - or our face looks tired and 'pulled down'

A very interesting role is also played by the vagus nerve. It is a nerve that influences the body's state of relaxation, regeneration and overall calm. It runs through the neck area, so it is very sensitive to how much tension is held there.

When the neck is chronically stiff or the head is in a poor position, it can affect the functioning of the vagus nerve as well. The body then has a harder time reaching a relaxed state, and this can show on the face too, through tension, swelling or a tired expression.

Lymph also plays an important role. It drains from the face precisely through the neck. When the neck is stiff, lymph does not flow as freely and the face can look heavier or puffy.

That is why correct posture is so important. When the head is in line, the neck is relaxed and the shoulders are down, the whole body and face come into greater balance. The muscles are not unnecessarily overloaded, the nervous system calms down more, and the face looks more natural and rested.

When the body is in the right position, the facial muscles work more naturally and the results are more effective.
